Dancing House, Prague

#64 of 1,220 in Things to do in Prague
Aptly named Dancing House is one of the more unusual buildings in the city center, a modern glass structure surrounded by Gothic and Baroque architecture. Designed by architects Vlado Milunic and Frank Gehry, the curvy glass tower appears clutched against a more upright structure, making the combination look like a pair of dancers. Nicknamed the "Fred and Ginger Building" after the celebrated dance duo, the building caused controversy in the 1990s, as some critics felt it did not accord well with the surrounding architectural styles. Visit the top floor, which houses a restaurant and offers views stretching all the way to the city's famous castle. • The Dancing Building, "the dancing building" of Prague, definitely stands out from the ancient architecture of the city. The architects have accepted the mission to design a building that represented the moment the country lived after the Velvet Revolution of 1989. Czechoslovakia was over to dismember: the Czech Republic broke away from Slovakia and the two left behind communism. Did this in a very poetic, sought inspiration in the dance and dubbed the building of "Fred & Ginger", in reference to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, a couple of the golden age of Hollywood. The building is a hotel and is allowed to climb on your roof that has binoculars and a beautiful view, as long as there is the consumption of a drink at the bar attachment.

  • You can either buy an admission ticket to the rooftop or buy a drink for free entry which I think is a great idea. We bought two cups of tea to keep us warm while we sat and enjoyed the view. The danc...  more »

  • We went to have breakfast and enjoy the view and the sun. However at the top floor they serve only coffee and tea, nothing to eat. There is almost no place to seat in the terrace. You can have breakfast at the restaurant one floor below, which is just OK. The view is nice, but the breakfast was not to the standards of other places. We had the option with a mix of Danish pastries which turned out to be only three pieces of the same thing. The coffee was tasty. You can go to the dancing houses for the view, have a quick coffee or tea in the terrace, but don't expect anything to remember about the place itself.
  • Nothing special. Just really cool to see it. You can go into this building. On the top you can sit and have some cool things to drink and eat. I would recommend you to wear Pants.. cause up there are mirrors on the floor and it could be unpleasant for you
  • Very interesting building, modern architecture inspired in Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The view from the roof top is well worth it. Although it was not our favourite spot for great views over the city.
  • Awesome building! I been told that the two buildings represent a man and a woman! There is a really nice restaurant on floor number 7! But it is better to make reservations because it is always full! There is also a bar on floor 8th with a really nice terrace with one of the best views.in prague!!
  • Really lovely place to stop on a walk around Prague. Good view. Pleasant staff. Found it through Janek's 'Honest Guide' to Prague.
