Dancing House, Prague

3.7
#64 of 753 in Things to do in Prague
Aptly named Dancing House is one of the more unusual buildings in the city center, a modern glass structure surrounded by Gothic and Baroque architecture. Designed by architects Vlado Milunic and Frank Gehry, the curvy glass tower appears clutched against a more upright structure, making the combination look like a pair of dancers. Nicknamed the "Fred and Ginger Building" after the celebrated dance duo, the building caused controversy in the 1990s, as some critics felt it did not accord well with the surrounding architectural styles. Visit the top floor, which houses a restaurant and offers views stretching all the way to the city's famous castle. Once you see it, it's just not crazy to look at. It really has nothing special to it.. i would not recommend. But I've heard breakfasts are nice there.  more »

The rooftop restaurant was a bust. For starters, not a single patron spoke Czech, which speaks volumes. Our server ignored my wife's order and just gave her an order of what I was having. After pointing it out, I was told it would it would take 45 minutes to correct, which is clearly a "we don't want to fix it" lie because it only took 20 to prepare what they gave us. Save your money, there are lots of other options.

One of Frank Gehry iconic buildings. A must see if you are a fan of his work. You can only admire it from the outside.

Really cool building. The rooftop bar has amazing views (you can only access it if you buy a drink, bit it's worth it)

We were here for Prague designer week. The space is too small and very crowed, hope I could see more designers and spend more time with their art piece rather than been squeezed by the crowd. Building itself is great, very unique.

The restaurant serves good food, for alright prices, with a great few over the city if you get good seatings (you can reserve such a place when you expect it to be busy).

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
