Prague Castle, Prague

Looming above the left bank of the Vltava River, Prague Castle claims status as the largest castle complex in the world. Dating back to the ninth century, the imposing structure occupies nearly 70,000 sq m (753,000 sq ft), its grounds so big they include four churches and four palaces, as well as five different gardens. Once the seat of power for kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman emperors, the castle now serves as the official residence of the country's president. The structure has undergone four major reconstructions since the 12th century, and its blend of architectural styles earned it a spot on the World Heritage List. • Hello! One of the most beautiful places of Prague. Self contained, but also to other objects. There are different restaurants and breweries, architecture and sculpture, great views and interesting streets. There you can wander all day))

  • One of the best places to visit while in Prague. There are set of very nice buildings in the place. The place also has a gift shop. The view of the surrounding area is amazing just you enter the castle. Please note that you have to climb many steps before you can get to the castle entrance.
  • I recommend going on a guided tour to the castle or else you won’t likely understand the complexity or unique nuances of what you’re looking at. I went with Next City Tours, a free tour, with Scott as my guide, but bring 24 czk for transportation and tip your guide! Amazing views of the city and our tour included a walk over the Charles Bridge, of course with explanation along the way. You can visit the castle for free and there are also 3 different entry packages you can purchase for various prices if you choose. Keep your eyes peeled for the changing of the guard which happens on the hour (from what I understand). Be prepared to go through security - a metal detector.
  • Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague, Czech Republic, from the 9th century. It is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic. The castle was a seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room inside it. According to the Guinness Book of Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying an area of almost 70,000 square meters (750,000 square feet), at about 570 meters (1,870 feet) in length and an average of about 130 meters (430 feet) wide. The castle is among the most visited tourist attractions in Prague attracting over 1.8 million visitors annually.
  • The view from top is simply breath taking and worth the walk up to the top, there are 2 ways to the castle one less strenuous and other is a step climb which is very steep. The less strenuous one is through the park which in itself is really beautiful. There was also wine fest happening next to palace and that was great too. Only problem I felt was not much inside the palace to wow us.
  • It's free and you'll have breathtaking views over the city I walked with my friend up. The walk up was pretty good. On the top we had a very nice view over Prague. This is the number one sight for me in Prague.

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
