Prague Castle, Prague

Looming above the left bank of the Vltava River, Prague Castle claims status as the largest castle complex in the world. Dating back to the ninth century, the imposing structure occupies nearly 70,000 sq m (753,000 sq ft), its grounds so big they include four churches and four palaces, as well as five different gardens. Once the seat of power for kings of Bohemia and Holy Roman emperors, the castle now serves as the official residence of the country's president. The structure has undergone four major reconstructions since the 12th century, and its blend of architectural styles earned it a spot on the World Heritage List. • Seeing it from across the river is great, but walking up it and getting to the top, wow the architecture is beautiful but the views are amazing! Pay the money for the ticket into St.Vitus Cathedral, i...  more »
  • The ticket issued was for two days..And for people who have small kids its best to spread the visit into two days . The church was quite good with a lot of glass paintings. If the queue is too long to...  more »
  • Beautiful castle, but even more so the whole area that surrounds it. Definitely worth the visit and the walk to get there

  • Fantastic place. Make sure to see everything and not just the cathedral. Reasonable ticket prices as well. There is heavy security presence however so make sure to get there early otherwise the wait can be long.
  • A must-see for anyone visiting Prague. Just the path towards the castle presents tourists plenty to see and do (though the path will be quite a steep climb). There are two entrances and the back entrance is the one with a shorter line. I recommend entering through the back and going out towards the front (near the Starbucks with a great view) as the front of the castle is quite beautiful and worth a photo. As for the castle itself, it is free to enter so don't let costs deter you from exploring. Once inside, you can buy tickets for specific areas of the castle that interests you.
  • Definitely the biggest attraction in Prague. There are several different buildings and tours here that are part of the Prague castle complex. They sell two main tickets. One is the "full tour" which is the ticket that gets you into pretty much everything. The other is the "short tour" which gets you into the four main things. We got the short tour ticket which was for the cathedral, the old palace area, st George's church, and the golden Lane. There are a few things you have to buy separate. The one thing that we bought that was an extra add on were tickets to go up to the Bell tower in the cathedral. Also on the Prague castle complex is the lobcowicz palace which is the only privately owned part of the complex. That is absolutely a can't miss museum! You must go! You get a discount on entry with your purchase of the other Prague castle tickets, but it's privately owned so must be purchased separately. It's definitely the best part of the whole Prague castle experience.
  • It is the biggest cattle complex in the world and it's impressive. Make sure you go early as it gets busy after 10 am and buy the tickets to go up the tower. It's worth the money and it's really impressive. It will be the highlight of your visit in Prague.
  • This review is for the climb up to the top of the tower. If you are only interested in climbing to the top (to see the amazing view) just go to the door labelled 'X'. We weren't too interested in going inside. If you are, be prepared to wait in a long line (or get there early). Enjoy climbing the endless spiral staircase!

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
