Spanish Synagogue, Prague

4.4
Colorful stained glass and elaborate Oriental motifs decorate the interior of Spanish Synagogue, the newest of the six Jewish synagogues in Prague. Built in the second half of the 19th century and considered the crown jewel of the city's Jewish quarter, the building is an outstanding example of the Moorish Revival architectural style. A pair of domed turrets tops the central section of the building's tripartite facade, making this one of the most recognizable structures in the city. Visit the upper-floor prayer hall to see an exhibit narrating the history of Prague's Jewish community, and containing thousands of items representing the work of many generations of goldsmiths from Bohemia and Moravia. • We happened upon the Spanish Synagogue quite by accident. A concert was about to take place, so we bought tickets. The experience of beauty was one of my favorites from Prague!  more »

  • The Spanish synagogue is colorful and well maintained. I recommend having the whole tour of the Jewish quarter.

  • A fascinating and melancholy place. A beautiful synagogue and museum. A powerful testament to the lost world of the Jews of Prague.
  • This synagogue is very nice with lush wall decoration and it's definitely worth going but they sell only combined tickets at quite high prices paying for other places that we are not interested in. So 5 stars for the Spanish synagogue and 1 start for the ticketing system. 3 stars in average.
  • Very pretty synagogue which covers the story of the history of the Jewish people in Prague in reasonable detail.
  • Of the synagogues I've been inside in Prague, this is probably the best or most beautiful. It's not very big, but it has interesting decoration inside. I'm not a fan of synagogues and I don't think this one specially worth the visit, but the ticket for visiting 4/5 synagogues is not very expensive and this is an example of the best you can get. Just look at the pictures and you'll decide.
  • An absolutely beautiful building with part of the Jewish Museum's collection displayed within. The museum collection (overall, between all the sites) is interesting, but come here for the architecture and decoration.

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
