Vyšehrad National Cultural Monument, Prague

4.7
A symbol of Czech statehood, Vyšehrad National Cultural Monument sits on a high promontory overlooking the Vltava River. This "Castle on the Heights," as its name roughly translates, notably contains a neo-Gothic church and an 11th-century rotunda, the oldest one in Prague. The extensive complex of structures also includes a 19th-century cemetery that's the final resting place for many Czech luminaries, including Alfons Mucha, Bedrich Smetana, and Antonin Dvorak. Many of the cemetery's headstones represent examples of outstanding artistic achievement; Dvorak's tombstone counts among the finest works of sculptor Ladislav Saloun, also interred here. • The Vysehrad is magical, that is sort of like "out of hand", as it is the Centre of Prague, which has the big advantage that there's fewer tourists. And when you load or naposloucháte in advance from "rambles through the Czech past" so you can be a girl or a cultivated and admired by children. With some backgrounds it's been worse, but the toilets I saw there. View better than from the Prague Castle, as it is in my opinion on our modern dismal.

  • When you choose a suitable time during off-peak hours, it is possible to spend a lot of time slow, quiet and romantic walk. Walls should be lovely views.

  • I love the Vyšehrad, and I love the look of the walls. Overall, this is the place for me that gives me energy. Like to come here in the evening, relax.

  • The gallery itself was not that good. It had a few collection of paintings from local artists. But the view of the river from there is beautiful.
  • We went here on a wintery day and the views where just stunning. The whole area is worth visiting for a couple of hours and walking around in to get away from the touristy old city.
  • Great location and view to Prag and Viltava river, very nice park.
  • Great location with a very good view.
  • Such an amazing view

Where to stay in Prague

As one of Europe’s main tourist destinations, Prague offers a selection of accommodations to match its popularity, from luxury hotels to very affordable hostels. For an authentic Prague experience, stay at one of the guesthouses or boutique hotels housed inside the city's historical buildings. You'll find many lodgings concentrated around the most popular sightseeing areas, such as the Old Town, the Lesser Town, and Prague Castle, but there are also a good number of them in other neighborhoods. The best way to make Prague feel like home is to rent a fully furnished apartment.
