Ca' Rezzonico, Venice

4.5
#3 of 74 in Museums in Venice
After years of renovations and changing ownership, Ca' Rezzonico> became a public museum in 1936. A Venetian patrician family named Bon commissioned the palazzo, though they never saw it completed. The skeleton of the unfinished palazzo was bought by Giambattista Rezzonico, who wrapped up the project and gave the interior the opulent decor you see today. The frescoes painted on the state room ceilings are the best-preserved in all of Venice. American songwriter Cole Porter partied underneath these same frescoes when he rented the palazzo for $4,000 a month in the 1920s. In 1935, the attraction was handed over to the city and became a venue for displaying 18th-century art among the sumptuous furnishings. A visit to Ca' Rezzonico represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Venice driving holiday planning website to plot your vacation.

  • We enjoyed strolling over to the Ca' Rezzonico one morning to see the lovely building & rooms. Nice area, and it wasn't crowded.  more »
  • Beautiful Palace xviii with these paintings, sculptures, paintings of Jouy! also has a very nice art gallery, pretty rich of paintings which complement those of the Palace (mythological, Biblical theme and stage of life or landscape in Venice)

  • Nice visit. Half stately palace and half art gallery. Went as it was included with my museums pass, otherwise probably wouldn't have gone. Not sure if I would pay full 10 euros, but then again I'm not a classical art aficionado. Still great visit and friendly staff. Cafe with savory and sweet foods.
  • Ever wonder what is inside those grand old homes/palaces along the Grand Canal? Well you can't see, because they are largely all still occupied by fabulously wealthy or "titled" people. But, here is your chance. This beautiful restoration shows you how Venetian nobles lived. We loved it. Get the audio guide.
  • You should really go there if visiting Venice!! It offers you great insights how the Dodges mostly have lived: really luxury, in well-designed rooms(Red,Green,Blue and a bigger room to make business+also a garden). It*s also cool, that you can see how much paintings they had owned. They haven*t become really famous and are not as good painted as the more famous Dutch painters have painted, but you normally get brilliant views on the canal grande or the new shipping house de tedesci.👌👌👌
  • Wonderful place to get to know the life of Venetians centuries ago and to see the masterpieces of art, not only the great paintings but also furniture and decorations, for example, a matchless beauty of the luxurious chandeliers made of Murano glass.
  • Beautiful porcelain collection. Important art pieces marking an era in transition. Good informational cards in each hall in 4-5 languages. Would be nice to have seating for visitors and a map of the place, so the attendant doesn't have to advise visitors to go to the upper floor.

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
