Squero di San Trovaso, Venice

4.6
One of the few dry docks in Venice, Squero di San Trovaso attracts many with its traditional gondola repair service. Watch the gondolas drift by while enjoying a snack from one of the small tapas restaurants that line the square. You may even get a chance to see a traditional wooden gondola being built by hand. The boatyard offers travelers a trip on a bragozzo, a traditional fishing boat from the 18th or 19th century, down the lagoon of Venice. If you are traveling with a group of 25 or more, tours can be booked to visit inside the boatyard, where you'll witness exquisite craftsmanship. • If not the last, certainly the most fascinating. Here repairs gondolas and dries the planking that you will use. Feels like stepping back in time.

  • I went to 8/2017. It is like Venice gondola shipyard. Is the size of said images were a big factory, but this small workshop is perfect. Because I'm afraid 8/15 Italy holidays, work was like holidays. Along the canals be excluded from the river and looks good.

  • Amazing factory still hand building gondolas. Over one hundred types of wood and six months are required to complete just one of these beauties. Worth checking out if a tour is offered.
  • Purveyor of the iconic gondolas of Venice, but I guess it's also a full service maintenance shop. Same location for centuries and stays true to its art form.
  • With a starting price of €35,000 (around €45,000 when pimped out) for a new gondola, you can only appreciate the effort that justifies the price by visiting the factory (calling this a factory feels like a disservice - they are craftsmen).
  • If you ever wondered what a gondola shipyard looks like, here you have it! You can only see it from across the canal, but anyway it is a quaint place that deserves a very short visit.
  • The oldest place building gondolas

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
