St Mark's Campanile, Venice

4.6
Overlooking the city's famous lagoon, St Mark's Campanile is one of the Venice's most recognizable symbols. Originally constructed as a lighthouse, this 99 m (323 ft) tall bell tower stands alone in one corner of St. Mark's Square. The tower's simple form has a fluted brick shaft topped by a belfry housing five bells. A pyramidal spire with a golden weathervane in the form of the archangel Gabriel caps the tower. Constructed in the ninth century on ancient Roman foundations, the bell tower underwent a massive reconstruction after a sudden collapse in 1902. Once the site of Galileo's observatory, the tower now features an elevator for easy access to the top and views of the lagoon and distant Alps. • You can't avoid to line up for some time but its worth. Tickets 8 € for adults and children 4 €. The elevator takes you 60 m upstairs in 45 sec. On the top you may enjoy an amazing overview in every d...  more »
  • I recommend, you can access the top of the steeple by lift. And it's beautiful view all Venice. Get a sunny day you take full eyes.

  • The 360° view over the lagoon is certainly a good reason to get on the Campanile di San Marco, but choosing to hire an audio guide, you can also have such a modest price (2 for €5), information and ideas on what to see during your stay in Venice. Lying in one of the most famous of Italy, the row is obviously mileage, so should arrive shortly before opening time.

  • A must in a visit to Venezia, in spite of the price. Very beautiful views not only on San Marco square and the church of the same name, but also on the bay. I There are queues to go up even before it is open, so it is recommended to visit it early in the morning. If it is in winter, it is possible to watch the sun rising on the bay.
  • At €8 per person, this is expensive, but then so is everything in Venice! The staff were unfriendly and when you get to the top you have to pay extra if you want to listen to the audio guide or use the binoculars. The view is good though.
  • If you can get past the price (€8 adult, €4 concession) and the 30-minute wait on most days, the Campanile provides absolutely stunning views of all around Venice!
  • The best view all over Venice! But you have also a great view from T Fondaco dei Tedeschi by DFS; there you don*t have to wait as much as in Markus Tower! But at the Markus Tower you got a little bit the atmosphere as in New Yorks administrative building, where they registred new migrants. The achitect could have used the Markus Tower to get inspired!👌👌👌 In off-season you also don*t have to wait as much as in main season of tourism. I really enjoyed it👏👏👏🔝
  • for 17 Euro (online booking, too expensive, it doesn't cost the price at all, normal price is 8 Euro) no explanation, unfriendly staff with ZERO English knowledge but dealing with the tourists. WASTE OF MONEY!!!

Where to stay in Venice

Save money and avoid tourist crowds by booking your accommodation outside the historical center of Venice. Central Venice is full of picturesque canals and narrow lanes, but it is also extremely noisy and hectic throughout the day and late into the night. You can explore the ancient city's charms at your own pace by staying at a comfortable B&B or small hotel located in the city's residential suburbs. To stay close to the finest beaches and restaurants, check into a hotel on the island of Lido, the city's famous seaside resort.
