As the closest town to a national park known for its archeological dwellings, Cortez sits along ancient trails that native Puebloan tribes have used for millennia.
Get a sense of the local culture at Long House and Hovenweep National Monument. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Petroglyph Point Hike and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. Venture out of the city with trips to Mesa Verde National Park (Park Point, Spruce Tree House, & more) and Anasazi Heritage Center [museum] & Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (in Dolores). Originally a frontier mining town, Durango is known today for its scenic setting, outdoor activities, and the 1880s steam-powered railway that takes visitors through sections of the mountains where roads don't reach.
On the 4th (Sun), trek along Animas River Trail and then explore the striking landscape of San Juan National Forest. Keep things going the next day: look for gifts at Honeyville and then fly down the slopes at Purgatory Resort.

Ouray, Colorado is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous city of Ouray County, Colorado, United States. Discover out-of-the-way places like Yankee Boy Basin and Cascade Falls Park. Escape the urban bustle at Ouray Box Canyon Waterfall and Box Canyon Waterfall & Park. Change things up with a short trip to Bear Creek Falls in Telluride (about 1h 30 min away). The City of Grand Junction is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Mesa County, Colorado, United States. On the 9th (Fri), wander the streets of Downtown Grand Junction, then do a tasting at Red Fox Cellars, and then learn about winemaking at Maison La Belle Vie Winery & Amy's Courtyard. Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs occupies a scenic location at the junction of the Colorado River and the Roaring Fork River, halfway between Vail and Aspen along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Step off the beaten path and head to Glenwood Canyon Bike Trail and Redstone Castle. Escape the urban bustle at Hanging Lake and Rifle Falls. National Landmark red cliffs and the even more striking Pikes Peak mountain attracts tourism to Colorado Springs.
Take a break from the city and head to Garden of the Gods and North Cheyenne Canon Park and Starsmore Discovery Center.
