An old colonial city and a busy cruise ship port less than an hour's drive from Houston, Galveston sits on Galveston Island and serves as a popular vacation destination for both domestic and international travelers.
On the 15th (Sat), take in nature's colorful creations at Moody Gardens, appreciate the extensive heritage of The Seawall, and then take a stroll through The Strand.

Dallas to Galveston is an approximately 5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of flight and shuttle; or do a combination of bus and shuttle. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Galveston when traveling from Dallas in April, with lows around 66°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Houston.

Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
Kick off your visit on the 16th (Sun): tour the pleasant surroundings at Houston Zoo and then play a few rounds at Hermann Park. On the next day, engage your brain at Houston Museum of Natural Science, take in the dramatic scenery at Water Wall, and then explore and take pictures at Minute Maid Park.
