Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Magazine Street and Royal Street. Do some cultural sightseeing at Laura Plantation: Louisiana's Creole Heritage Site and Lafayette Cemetery No.1. You'll find plenty of places to visit near New Orleans: Biloxi (Beauvoir & Biloxi Beach), Houmas House Plantation and Gardens (in Darrow) and Whitney Plantation (in Edgard). There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, get to know the fascinating history of Garden District, see the interesting displays at Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, and stroll through New Orleans City Park.
