Belfast Zoo, Newtownabbey

Belfast Zoo is home to more than 1,000 animals and 150 species, including Barbary lions, red kangaroos, spider monkeys, Asian elephants, and Malayan sun bears. The Bird Park is home to many exotic and endangered birds, and the Giraffe and Elephant Enclosure hosts adorable giraffe calves that you will not want to miss. Transport yourself in the Rainforest House, a walk-through exhibition with dense tropical landscaping and a constant temperature of 27 C (81 F). Here you can spot fruit bats, Fuvlous whistling ducks, and a greater necklace laughing thrush. The zoo is located on top of a hill, granting scenic views over the Belfast Lough and Antrim coast, as well as providing a peaceful home for its animals. However, this does mean that there’s a steep walk up to the zoo, and it is also hilly inside. Comfy shoes are a must. • Ideal day out. Family well entertained in all aspects and perfect location to tire tiny feet. As a disabled person, catered for with all facilities around the zoo. Barring British weather, it was a very enjoyable time. πŸ¦πŸ¦πŸ’πŸ¦…πŸπŸ¦πŸ―πŸ΅πŸ’πŸ¨πŸ˜
  • The zoo is nice and local to Belfast which is good. It is on a hill so bring your walking boots. BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. The restaurants are way over priced. 3 sausage rolls, no frills just sausage rolls, and a plain hot dog, tea and coffee Β£23. And the customer service was exceptionally poor. I like the zoo, and wish it does well in the future however as a returning customer it seems I've been too late to realise the benefits of a picnic.
  • Great zoo, plenty to see with animals in nice sized and managed enclosures. Only criticism being that is all on a hill so we good shoes and be prepared for a good walk. Friendly staff to boot.
  • Definitely improved from last visit a year or so ago. Zoo is hilly, pushing buggy around it is not for faint hearted!- but a good day out esp. on nice day. Lots of picnic tables dotted around and great playpark for children
  • Love this zoo. Gets alot of criticism but the kids love it. It's in a great location, reasonably priced and plenty to entertain for a full day
