Guanella Pass is a high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado, US.The pass is located in southwestern Clear Creek County, in the Front Range west of Denver and south of Georgetown. The pass was named for Byron Guanella in 1953. Guanella was a road supervisor and commissioner in Clear Creek County for nearly 50 years. The pass provides a route between Georgetown in the valley of Clear Creek to the north and Grant in the valley of Geneva Creek, a tributary of the North Fork South Platte River, to the south. The pass is traversed by the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway. The road provides a link between Interstate 70 to the north and U.S. Highway 285 to the south. The entire route from Georgetown to U.S. Highway 285 is paved. The road is no longer maintained in the winter and expect closure after the first heavy snow in the winter. There is a parking area at the closure gate on the Georgetown side of the pass to allow access to the pass by foot or snowmobile during the winter. At the summit of the pass, hiking trails lead east to Mount Bierstadt among other places.

  • Guanella has awesome disperse camping and great views all right on the river. Love seeing the stars here and tons of shooting stars. Nice hikes all around just start walking you won't be disappointed.
  • Here you can get the same experience as going up Mount Evans only this is free and less crowded. You also have access to the easiest 14er to climb in Colorado.
  • Beautiful. Check before hand to make sure it is open.
  • This pass is absolutely amazing!!! We were happy to be there at the beginning of June and I honestly consider it the most beautiful place in US so far! The road is extremely beautiful! Absolutely the most scenic and picturesque I've seen so far!! Forest, lakes, animals, views, snow, streams and waterfalls!! What else can you possibly need!! Campgrounds or cabins to spend there more time - you got it!! I'm sorry I've had a chance to be there only overnight and a few hours in the morning. But it still was enough to fall in love with this place!
  • To quote Dunkin... "It's worth the trip!"
