Laurel Falls, Great Smoky Mountains National Park

4.5
#3 of 12 in Nature in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Featuring numerous plunges and cascades, 24 m (80 ft) high Laurel Falls is divided into upper falls and lower falls sections with a walkway cutting through. The trail that runs through the falls provides an overlook. You can reach the falls, one of the most popular attractions in the park, from a 2.1 km (1.3 mi) paved hiking trail that is ranked easy to moderate--but take note that it is sometimes slippery. Be wary of the historic lookout tower at the end of the trail; it is considered too unsafe to climb. • George’s is hike. While folks say you could take a stroller i would not recommend it. Many places on the path are steeper than I’d want to push a stroller. Also towards the top the path gets more narr...  more »
  • This was a very nice hike. The hike up isn't too strenuous and it is paved, although not stroller recommended. The view and waterfall is worth the hike. Very pretty. We went in January so it wasn't bu...  more »
  • This was a perfect hike for a family with young kids! It’s just over a mile each way and is paved. It is mostly uphill on the way up to the falls but totally doable for people of all fitness levels. T...  more »

  • Not too bad of a hike. A little crowded the day we went. It's a popular place. The waterfall is beautiful and there are amazing views along the way. Just as an FYI. At the pull off before this hike we saw 7 bears. 4 across the street and 3 on the side of the pull off. I was impressed as to how quickly the forest rangers showed up to monitor the stopped cars, passerby's, hikers and of course the bears. We also saw an upside down rainbow. Unbelievable!
  • The hike has a bit of a steep incline but there are beautiful views along the trail and the waterfall is gorgeous. If you continue on beyond the waterfall, I heard another hiker say that view is spectacular and they saw snow. We visited in October 2017
  • We did this trail with an 15 month and 4 year old. It was a fairly easy hike and the falls were beautiful. We were told that strollers could be taken on the trail, but would not advise it. We wore our youngest in a carrier. There are some steep drops offs, I would recommend doing the trail with older kids or a good adult to child ratio.
  • Nice, moderate trail. We hiked up while it was snowing and it was beautiful. Visibility was limited but there's still a great view close to the top. Be careful especially if you bring young kids, there aren't really any railings and it's a steep drop.
  • Very easy hike & nice waterfall. Go early because it's very popular & can get crowded. Beautiful views on way to fall's especially in the fall the colors are beautiful. Definitely a must see in the park.
