The zoo had all the animals we wanted to see! A photographer takes your picture as soon as you enter to make your trip even more memorable. There are several stations to use the restroom and purchase ...  more »

It is a very interesting ZOO, bears for example panda that had never seen in other zoos in several countries. Various closed spaces for different species. Very easy tour, free wifi, many places of rest. The entry includes practically all.

Wonderful Zoo! Organized, clean and family friendly. You can bring in your own food and water. Also, bring a swim suit and towel for the splash pad. There are cooling mist stations around the zoo as well. Great way to spend some time in Houston. Would recommend getting there right at 9am when they open before it gets too warm.

The zoo is amazing. Very clean and they have a lot of animals here. The animals have a good amount of space. Also feeding the giraffes is so much fun! For like $7 you can feed them big pieces of lettuce and they'll eat it from your hand. Definitely must try that

Houston Zoo Lights was ok. If you plan on attending, buy your tickets in advance. If you don't, the lines are crazy long! Also, make sure that you read where you need to park so that the trams will pick you up! You won't be able to park in the "normal," park area. There's simply too many people trying to attend this annual event. On the other hand, if you attend the Houston Zoo during daylight hours, you won't be disappointed. The zoo is one of the best in the country, and it is highly underestimated.

Great free parking. Good selection of animals to view. I wish there was more information on things like how big the animals get, age they live to, etc. The app could use since overhaul. Overall though our experience was very fun! Good indoor cooling off areas. Food was good, just pricey - will bring our own next time.

Amazing and clean establishment covering various types of animals and they seem to be well taken care of. It's not just for profit but it also aims to educate the public about conservation. Even though it was hot, the map can tell you where the indoor cold spots are. Food is a bit pricy but they allow outside food. The place is also clean and barely smells (as expected). It is massive! So you'll need the whole day. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Parking can be difficult but it's free.

Where to stay in Houston

If you come to Houston to splurge while on holiday, book a luxurious room at a downtown hotel. This area is an ideal base for getting to know Houston, offering you a chance to stay within walking distance of one of the country's largest theater districts. Houston bills itself as the "Energy Capital of the World," so it's no surprise that it houses many "green" hotels, their garages designed to cater to electric vehicle owners. For something completely different, enjoy a Texas country experience at a working ranch outside the city limits.
