The Neon Museum, Las Vegas

4.4
Las Vegas is the world capital of neon art, and The Neon Museum is there to preserve and display some of it. The museum refurbishes old and discarded neon signs and tells the history of the city through them. Some of the restored signs are displayed in various locations in downtown Las Vegas, but most are located in the museum’s outdoor exhibition area, known as the Boneyard. Here you can take a tour of iconic signs, such as the signs for Caesar's Palace and Stardust casinos. All the tours are guided and should be booked in advance. Bad weather could cause tours to be canceled. Be careful of rusty metal and broken glass in the Boneyard area. • I had wanted to visit this place for several years and finally made it happen on a trip to Las Vegas over MLK weekend. We watched their website for quite some time beforehand to reserve our spots and ...  more »
  • Quick note, I love reading the "terrible" reviews. Most people are completely unprepared for this place, and that's the one thing you need before you come here: a reservation. It's a smaller museum th...  more »

  • Really cool to see once. Books up fast so get your tickets early. Would’ve loved to go on a night tour. It is HOT at the graveyard. They provide umbrellas, but arrive early because they didn’t have enough for our whole group. There has to be a way for them to provide shade along the tour without taking away from the beauty of the signs.
  • I have wanted to see this collection ever since I saw National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation. I FINALLY made and boy was it amazing. It's so much cleaner and more organized than I expected. What a cool little thing to do in Vegas. Thanks to whomever started this place. Its a true treasure.
  • Have done both the night and day tour and would recommend the night tour if you are only able to visit the once. Great opportunity for photos as some of the signs have been renovated and light up. Great tour guides other lots of knowledge and great stories. Well worth the visit of you have the time get the ticket that includes the mob museum.
  • Top spot for your non-casino excursions when visiting Las Vegas. Its a tour and a history lesson all rolled into one and you walk away feeling like the newest member of the Rat Pack. If you manage to score a night tour (when the neon signs glow) you're doing better than we did. The daytime tours are cool too.
  • Great place to go at night. Really enjoyed it, although we went in November at night and was quite chilly. Worth a jacket if you go at this time of year. The guides are all totally knowledgeable and all of it goes to funding the upkeep of the old lights. Combine it with a mob museum ticket, and you won't be disappointed.

Where to stay in Las Vegas

Most Las Vegas hotels increase their room rates on the weekends, so if you have a flexible schedule, avoid Fridays and Saturdays and take advantage of package deals that include shows, meals, and gambling coupons. Remember also that if you stay at any one of the lively casino hotels, you may not be able to get a good night's sleep for the duration of your trip. If you come to Vegas to stay but not necessarily play, try one of the non-gaming hotels or explore the quieter areas surrounding the city.
